Classified as a National Monument in 1910. Built in the 17th century during the royal rule of Philip II of Portugal between 1607 and 1610.

The bridge is surrounded by the landscape of the Zêzere Valley and the confluence of Ribeira de Pera, one of the most beautiful postcards in our region.

Much admired, above all, for the landscape surroundings, it attracts many visitors in search of contemplation and contact with nature.

The existence of another old bridge (Roman) is admitted, which would make the passage of the Zêzere to a road that would connect Emerita Augusta (Mérida), through Sertã, to Conimbriga. It should still exist in 1419, the year in which it was repaired, according to historical records.

In architectural terms, it is a granite construction, with three arches over the Zêzere river.

The central arch has a larger opening. For years, the work would prove to be extremely important for all those who intended to cross the banks of the Zêzere River and make the journey between Pedrógão Grande and Pedrógão Pequeno.
